Mirabai chanu triumphant return to international
Mirabai Chanu made a triumphant return to international competition, clinching the gold medal in the women's 48kg category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Ahmedabad.
She lifted a total weight of 193kg, comprising 84kg in snatch and 109kg in clean and jerk, setting new Commonwealth Championship records. This victory marks a significant milestone for Chanu, who had been battling injuries and hadn't competed in the 48kg category since 2018.
Her decision to move down from the 49kg division is strategic, given the new Olympic weight categories for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. With this win, Chanu has demonstrated her resilience and determination.
